Perlis: RHB Islamic, MAIPS Empowering B40 Micro-entrepreneurs
Kuala Lumpur – RHB Islamic Bank Bhd and Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Perlis have officiated a partnership to equip and empower micro-entrepreneurs from the B40 and asnaf communities in Perlis with mentoring, training and other necessary tools to improve their economic well-being.
RHB Islamic contributed RM60,000 through the partnership to materialize asnaf economic empowerment by equipping a community centre in Perlis.
“Through this partnership, a community centre in Taman Desa Asnaf, Batu Bertangkup that is operated by Akademi Transformasi Asnaf MAIPs Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MAIPs, will be transformed into a facility that accommodates training rooms and a fully-equipped baking centre.
“Training courses will be conducted at this facility on preparing and producing frozen food and pastries, for the benefit of the local asnaf community. This would in turn allow them to gain the knowledge and expertise to sustainably generate income towards improving their overall economic situations.
“Our efforts in empowering the local communities encapsulates the principles of Value-Based Intermediation adopted by the Bank, and we look forward to this facility being utilised by the asnaf from the B40 community in Perlis to seize this opportunity to empower their household economic well-being,” says Dato’ Adissadikin Ali, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of RHB Islamic.
At the same event, RHB Islamic handed over corporate zakat payment amounting to RM450,000 to MAIPs. Dato’ Adissadikin Ali represented RHB Islamic in handing over the corporate zakat contribution to DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Raja Muda of Perlis on behalf of MAIPS, and witnessed by Tuan Haji Mohd Nazim, Chief Executive Officer of MAIPS.
The ceremony concluded with a 10km cycling tour led by DYTM Tuanku Raja Muda Perlis, together with representatives from RHB Islamic and MAIPs, to visit and hand-deliver the corporate zakat contributions to a total of 33 asnaf families.
“The bicycle ride allows engagement not only between MAIPs and RHB Islamic as the corporate zakat payer but also, permits the participants to go on the ground to witness the conditions of the people, which may enable them to see things from the eyes of the underprivileged Muslim families. This outreach activity has become MAIPs’ norm since it is more effective in reaching out to them with bicycles as compared to cars. This also allows us to get to know them more personally, instead of waiting for them to come and seek help,” said MAIPs Chief Executive Officer, Tuan Haji Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor.
