Apollo Hospitals Conducts 3 Successful Liver Transplants
Kuala Lumpur, 9th October 2022: In a continuous endeavor to save lives, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, India, has commenced extending its care and expertise to patients of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur with end stage liver diseases.
Recently 1 year old, baby CAREENA underwent a lifesaving liver transplant procedure after developing liver cirrhosis post an unsuccessful Kasai surgery done soon after her birth.
Additionally, an 8-month-old, baby Nur, had to undergo a liver transplant after suffering from hepatic biliary atresia. Both the infants were initially treated in their native country but when their condition deteriorated, they were brought to India and admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.

Similarly in a span of 8 months, 4 such cases of liver transplants have been successfully treated at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi under the supervision Dr Neerav Goyal, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, along with his team comprising Dr Arun V, Dr Varun M, Dr Pradeep Kumar (Consultants, Liver Transplant) and Dr Sanjeev Aneja, Dr Purnima Dhar and Dr Chitra (Anaesthetist).
Addressing the media Dr Neerav Goyal, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, said, “Apollo Hospitals has always been on the forefront of ensuring delivery of care to patients in needs despite constraints like geographical boundaries. Fortunately, we have been able to help many patients from Malaysia suffering from critical ailments. The youngest child operated was 6-month-old and the oldest child operated was 1.8 years old. Significantly, babies weighing barely 08 kgs and 10.7 kgs have also had liver transplants at Apollo Hospitals.”
“In all The Apollo Liver Transplant Program, the first successful program in India which was established in 1998 has now performed more than 3950 liver transplants including 458 in children from 20 countries” he further added.
Liver Disease Awareness
Speaking about the event Mudzaffar Shah bin Ali, Chairman, Biliary Atresia Malaysia Association, said, “Biliary Atresia is consider very rare in Malaysia and the awareness about this disease still lacking among the public.
Liver transplant in Malaysia also considered quite new compared to other countries in the region. It is our hope with awareness programme like this that involve speakers from Apollo hospital which is one of the best Liver transplant facility and our local liver transplant hospital will bring great benefit to our community here.”
