John Burke Now General Manager Of Malaysia’s Premier Venue

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre announces changes in leadership team


The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has announced a series of promotions and new appointments in its leadership team. John Burke, who previously served as the Deputy General Manager of the Centre since 2017, has been appointed as the new General Manager, succeeding Alan Pryor who retired after 40 years in the business events industry.

Burke has been integral in driving the Centre’s digital transformation, overseeing the upgrade of its security infrastructure and the successful development of hybrid and virtual event spaces and platforms.



He has also led multiple sustainability projects, initiatives and investments to enhance the Centre as a sustainable venue. Meanwhile, Robert Hatton-Jones has joined the team as Deputy General Manager, bringing nearly two decades of experience in F&B operations, business development, venue and asset management, event planning and marketing.

The Centre has also promoted Layzree bin Bongsu to the Director of Finance and Administration. Prior to joining the Centre, Layzree was part of two pre-opening teams as Director of Finance for Hard-Rock Hotel and the Hyatt Regency.

Alan Pryor played a key role in the creation of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA), a destination collective offering a single-point-of-contact for international meetings and events planners and organisers.

His most recent undertaking is the development of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) Precinct as a sustainable meetings destination.

Pankaj also added that the RM2.49 billion vape industry which involves thousands of SMEs and local entrepreneurs with over 30,000 direct and indirect workers would also be affected by the GEG measure
