Maxis and Huawei showcase first 5.5G technology trial in Malaysia 

Maxis and Huawei successfully conducted the first 5G-Advanced trial in Malaysia, achieving peak speeds of up to 8Gbps, demonstrating advanced digital solutions and next-gen connectivity.

The trial, also known as 5.5G, promises tenfold improvements in speed, connected devices, and latency compared to 5G.

Yang Berhormat Fahmi Fadzil was briefed on the potential of 5G-Advanced technology through next generation connectivity and digital solutions during his walkabout at the trial showcase. With him are Yang Berusaha Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin, Deputy Secretary General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) of the Ministry of Communications (left) and Goh Seow Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Maxis.

The event showcased interactive applications like low-latency live streaming, 3D content, and augmented reality experiences.

The 5.5G capabilities support digitalization, automation, and IoT across industries. Maxis and the Chinese giant’s collaboration aims to position Malaysia as a leader in digital infrastructure.

The trial will be presented at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, representing Malaysia’s technological advancements.
