Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sets New Record with 1.1 Million TEUs Monthly
ISKANDAR PUTERI, 5 August 2024 — The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a prominent Malaysian port operated in partnership between MMC Group and APM Terminals, has achieved a significant milestone by handling 1,115,181 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in a single month. This impressive feat, recorded in July 2024, makes PTP the first port in Malaysia to surpass 1.1 million TEUs in a month without encountering any congestion.
This new record surpasses PTP’s previous high of 1,077,747 TEUs set in May 2024, highlighting the port’s consistent operational excellence and reinforcing its position as a leading maritime and transshipment hub both regionally and globally.

Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, PTP Chairman, expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the port’s ability to handle such high volumes smoothly is a testament to its vital role in global supply chains and Malaysia’s economic growth. Despite ongoing global shipping challenges, including significant port congestion and disruptions due to the Red Sea Crisis, PTP has maintained exceptional service levels.
Mark Hardiman, PTP’s CEO, credited the port’s success to ongoing investments in infrastructure, digitalisation, and adherence to environmental and safety standards. He emphasized that these efforts have enabled PTP to manage global congestion effectively while achieving record-breaking performance.
PTP’s achievement is also highlighted by its recent accolades, including the Industry Excellence Award (AKI) for the Services Sector, the British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Business Excellence Award for Outstanding ESG, and a ranking as the fifth most efficient container port globally by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.
