Oracle to Invest USD6.5 Billion in Malaysia, MITI Welcomes the Move

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) has welcomed Oracle’s decision to invest USD6.5 billion in Malaysia. This major investment will enable Malaysian entities, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to leverage advanced cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to foster innovation and enhance their global competitiveness. The investment is also a significant step towards realizing the vision of the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030), which aims to establish 3,000 smart factories by 2030.

Zafrul on Oracle

Oracle’s choice to establish its first public cloud region in Malaysia underscores the country’s position as a premier digital investment destination in Southeast Asia. “Oracle clearly sees the potential of Malaysia as a hub for technology innovation and growth in Southeast Asia,” said Tengku Zafrul, Minister of MITI. “This investment positions Malaysia as a regional gateway for cloud infrastructure and software applications, ensuring data control and digital sovereignty for Oracle’s customers, especially for our industries looking to expand into Southeast Asia.”

Tengku Zafrul also highlighted the importance of legal sovereignty in attracting investments to Malaysia, emphasizing that this has been a key factor in drawing significant digital investments to the country.
