Malaysia made it clear at the UNs High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2022 (HLPF 2022) held from July 5 to 15 , that it is committed to a sustainable, resilient and inclusive development.
The event organised under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) includes a three-day Ministerial Segment of the Forum, which took place from July 13 to 15, 2022 and the High-Level segment of the ECOSOC which concluded on July 18, 2022.
Under the theme “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, HLPF 2022 also reviewed in-depth the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, Goal 5 on Gender Equality, Goal 14 on Life Below Water, Goal 15 on Life on Land, and Goal 17 on Partnerships.
Malaysia’s commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda), as reflected in Malaysia’s national development blueprint, the 12th Malaysia Plan, says Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed.
He also welcomed the cooperation between UN member states, and called on countries to continue sharing best practices, knowledge and technical expertise through capacity building in areas of climate change, poverty eradication, digitalisation and innovation to accelerate its pursuit in realising the 2030 Agenda.

Malaysia also organised a side event entitled ‘Building Back Better in Localising SDGs: A Case Study of Malaysia and Three Southeast Asian Country Experiences of the Partnership Model’ on July 11, 2022. More than 100 participants attended the virtual event.
The programme highlighted Malaysia’s experience as well as three other Southeast Asian countries namely Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand on their achievements and challenges in localising SDGs. Speakers also shared their experiences on building back better in the context of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Malaysia together with Indonesia and Philippines in collaboration with the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) and the International Coconut Community (ICC) organised a side event entitled “Catalyzing Actions for Sustainable Vegetable Oils in Support of Sustainable Development Goals” on 11 July 2022. The virtual event drew more than 160 participants.
The event highlighted the pivotal role of the vegetable oil sector in supporting the achievement of SDGs.
The event also served as a platform to promote public awareness on emerging trends and actions in ensuring sustainability across all types of vegetable oils and to identify the way forward in promoting sustainable vegetable oils across both producer and consumer countries.
Additionally, a 6-day virtual exhibition was held from 10 to 15 July 2022, where vegetable oils producing countries and stakeholders showcased best practices and experiences in supporting SDGs.
On July 19, 2022, Malaysia participated in the High-Level Segment of the ECOSOC entitled “Looking Ahead: Acting Today to Secure a Better Future”.
During the session, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah participating as a panellist, shared Malaysia’s perspectives and experiences in building back better from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in pursuing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
