Bersatu Backs Petronas’ Phased Termination of Contract Workers

Bersatu supports Petronas’ phased termination of 5,000 contract workers, calling it a more humane approach to reduce the economic and social impact. Bersatu Supreme Council member Datuk Mohamed Farid Mohamed Zawawi said the gradual process allows affected workers time to adjust and seek new opportunities. He echoed party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call for upskilling and retraining initiatives. Farid also urged Petronas, as a GLC, to uphold its social responsibility towards its employees. However, he expressed concern that the job cuts may be due to financial pressure and high dividend demands from the Unity Government.
