ENGIE and Mölnlycke Expand Partnership on Energy Transition to Reach Global Net Zero

ENGIE, a global provider of low-carbon energy and services, has partnered with Mölnlycke, a world-leading medical products and solutions company, to support the latter’s transition to becoming a global leader in sustainable healthcare.

ENGIE will provide low-carbon energy expertise to Mölnlycke’s operations worldwide, starting with the surgical glove manufacturing operations in Malaysia.

The companies have entered into a 15-year, low-carbon energy and services partnership to support Mölnlycke’s new mid- and long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.

The initiative will leverage ENGIE’s advisory and utilities-as-a-service model to deliver thermal oil, chilled water, iced water, and compressed air utilities, along with rooftop solar to reduce Mölnlycke’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

In addition to this partnership, ENGIE Impact, ENGIE’s sustainability consulting division, will support Mölnlycke by defining and implementing a global renewable energy roadmap to achieve 100% renewable electricity sourcing by the end of 2024 across all of Mölnlycke’s operations.

As of the end of 2022, this target has already been achieved for eight out of 14 of Mölnlycke’s plants, achieving a cumulative total of over 60% renewable electricity share.

Mölnlycke has committed to achieving its Science-Based Target initiative (SBTi) set in December 2022, and ENGIE’s partnership supports the company in attaining its sustainability goals.

Mölnlycke’s executive vice president, Katriina Öberg, expressed confidence in ENGIE’s proven track record in renewable energy, gas, and low-carbon energy services in supporting their journey to net zero.

Mathias Lelievre, CEO of ENGIE Impact, sees this partnership as an example of how organizations can accelerate their net-zero transition through finding the right partner with decarbonization capabilities.

Thomas Baudlot, CEO Energy Solutions APAC and Country Head for Southeast Asia, ENGIE South East Asia, sees this partnership as a way to help Mölnlycke realize its vision of building a sustainable healthcare manufacturing ecosystem globally.
