FBM KLCI Slips Below 1,600 Amid Foreign Selling Pressure

FBM KLCI fell below 1,600 as foreign selling persisted, with investors cautious despite stronger domestic economic growth.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The FBM KLCI extended its losses on Monday, falling 0.75 per cent to 1,595.75 and slipping below the key 1,600-point level for the first time since September 2025 amid persistent foreign fund outflows and lingering global uncertainties.

Market sentiment remained negative, with losers outnumbering gainers 741 to 322, while 482 counters closed unchanged. Despite the broader weakness, selected sectors posted gains, led by Construction, which rose 0.77 per cent, followed by Industrial Products and Services at 0.76 per cent and Energy at 0.31 per cent.

Foreign Selling

Technology stocks led the decline, dropping 1.50 per cent, while Financial Services and REITs fell 1.39 per cent and 1.83 per cent respectively.

Analysts expect the benchmark index to find support from Wall Street’s overnight rebound and Malaysia’s stronger-than-expected third-quarter GDP growth of 5.3 per cent. However, elevated US Treasury yields and continued foreign selling may limit upside momentum.

The FBM KLCI is expected to trade range-bound, with support at 1,580 and resistance between 1,610 and 1,630.
