Former DP World chief Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem now leads MMC Port Holdings after its CEO’s immediate departure, overseeing operations while ensuring continuity across Malaysia’s largest port operator.
Former DP Chief Leads
Former DP World chairman and chief executive Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has assumed direct leadership of MMC Port Holdings after the immediate departure of group chief executive Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.
The memo instructs senior management and chief executives of all operating ports to report directly to Bin Sulayem, who serves as executive chairman.
No reason was given for Azman’s exit, and no timeline was provided for appointing a permanent successor. Bin Sulayem said the interim reporting structure is intended to ensure leadership continuity, stable governance and uninterrupted execution of strategic projects.
MMC Ports operates seven ports along or near the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes and a critical corridor for global shipping and energy transportation.
The leadership transition comes as MMC Ports continues to attract attention over its long-delayed initial public offering, which had been expected to become Malaysia’s largest IPO in more than a decade.
