Ibraco Boosts Community Living with New School at NorthBank

KUCHING, SARAWAK, 04 APRIL 2025 – The strategic partnership between leading property developer and construction group, Ibraco Berhad (Ibraco) with renowned education group, HELP Education Group (HELP) to form the Tunku Putra-HELP School (TPHS) commenced in January 2020 in an effort to enhance access to quality education for communities in and around its premier The NorthBank township here.

This collaboration underscores Ibraco’s vision of integrating world-class institutions and service providers into its premier township developments to ensure a sustainable and enriching environment for members of its communities.

Ibraco and HELP

Datuk Chew Chiaw Han, Group Managing Director of Ibraco, stated, “Ibraco is dedicated to building more than just homes; we are here to create thriving communities. Our partnership with HELP is a testament to our commitment to provide a holistic living environment where education, sustainability, and community development come together”.

The NorthBank, developed by Ibraco, is a modern township that seamlessly integrates residential, commercial, medical and educational components. Designed to be a self-sustaining community, The NorthBank offers families a secure, convenient and future-ready environment to live, work, learn, and play.

Ibraco’s vast investment in this first-in-Sarawak partnership with HELP to bolster the integration of educational excellence with its township developments has been structured in such a way that would not only support the dynamic development of the township and the institution, but would continue to bolster the success of both groups in advancing their foot-print across Sarawak, and eventually the country.

The curriculum

“At TPHS, we believe education is the foundation of strong communities. Through our partnership with Ibraco, we can continue to provide transformative learning experiences that prepare students for the future while instilling a strong sense of social responsibility,” said Dr Gerard D Louis, Group Co-CEO of HELP Education Group.

The School currently offers both national and international curricula, for students at kindergarten, primary, secondary, and A Level.  The international programme adopts the British Education Curriculum culminating in the widely-recognised IGCSE and Cambridge International Examination (CIE) ALevel qualifications, while the national programme offers the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) and Secondary School Standard Curriculum (KSSM) where students will sit for national examinations. Mathematics and Science are further complemented with Singapore and British syllabi. Combining the best of Western and Eastern education, students will develop higher order thinking skills (HOTS) and be equipped with 21st century skills.

At TPHS, their transformative learning goes beyond general academic studying. Upper secondary students get the chance to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a prestigious award that equips young people with the skills they need for life. These skills are transferable and it helps to increase their fitness levels, cultivate a sense of adventure and volunteering in their community as well as helping young people to find their purpose, passion and place in the world.

This year, Ibraco is supporting the School in another global programme of excellence.  Students from TPHS have been selected to represent Sarawak and Malaysia in the upcoming International Creativity and Innovation Award (ICIA 2025), to be held in Vietnam in April 2025. This prestigious event provides an invaluable platform for young innovators to showcase their technological advancements and problem-solving skills in the international stage.

Economic excellence

Over the next five years, Ibraco and TPHS will focus on advancing academic excellence through enhanced curriculums and extracurricular activities, strengthening community engagement through joint events and initiatives, promoting a safe and inclusive environment for students and families, aligning with The NorthBank’s infrastructure development to improve school facilities and resources, and encouraging innovation and future-ready education by integrating technology and sustainability-focused learning.

To amplify its impact, Ibraco and TPHS actively engage with local authorities and align their initiatives with the Sarawak government’s vision for digitalisation, innovation, energy, and transportation. Through HELP University’s Yayasan programme, TPHS also supports teacher training initiatives to elevate educational standards in the region. Furthermore, Ibraco collaborates on key government infrastructure projects such as the Kuching Urban Transportation System, reinforcing its commitment to long-term urban development.

With a focus on sustainability, education, and community development, Ibraco’s leadership in urban development, combined with TPHS’s dedication to nurturing future generations, ensures a lasting positive impact on Sarawak’s communities.
