The Finance Ministry has allocated RM5.5 million to procure a sea ambulance for Langkawi and cover its initial operating costs, with the service expected to begin early next year.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the vessel would be operated by Hospital Sultanah Maliha to improve emergency patient transfers from Langkawi to referral hospitals on the mainland. Currently, such transfers depend on passenger ferry services, which are affected by limited schedules. The dedicated sea ambulance is expected to provide faster, safer and more reliable transport while ensuring patients’ health, safety and privacy during emergency transfers.
