KUALA LUMPUR: Former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng has described Anthony Loke Siew Fook’s decision to offer his resignation as Transport Minister as a major loss for Penang, citing more than RM21 billion in transport projects approved during Loke’s tenure.
Lim said the projects included the RM16.8 billion Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, RM1.55 billion expansion of Penang International Airport, RM30 million for Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) stations, RM2.2 billion for Penang Port and RM500 million for Swettenham Pier.
He said Loke’s resignation had been offered as DAP’s response to the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, while the party would continue to remain in the Federal Government.

According to Lim, Loke had demonstrated DAP’s longstanding position on accountability over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, regardless of whether the party was in government or opposition.
Lim further said the scale of approved transport projects made Loke one of the most effective Transport Ministers for Penang when compared with previous MCA ministers.
Loke announced on Sept 19 that he would offer his resignation, while other DAP ministers would remain in the unity government to maintain political stability. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said he would meet Loke before deciding on the resignation offer.
