MACC: Najib’s Conditional Pardon Does Not Affect 1MDB Case

KAJANG, Sept 20, 2026 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that the status of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case involving former prime minister Najib Razak remains unchanged despite his conditional pardon.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said each case must be handled separately based on its own issues and investigations. “Cases that are still pending will continue as usual. The status quo remains,” he told reporters.

He stressed that investigations cannot be equated, as each involves different allegations and complaints. Najib’s conditional pardon, granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on Sept 18, allows him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine.

The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board at Istana Negara.
