Mahsuri and FIM Launch Third Chef Muda Programme for Malay Cuisine

PETALING JAYA, 25 August 2025 – Mahsuri Dagang Sdn Bhd (Mahsuri), a leading Halal-certified food producer in the ASEAN region, today awarded scholarships to 10 underprivileged youths under its Chef Muda Mahsuri Programme, now in its third year. The initiative is held in collaboration with the Food Institute of Malaysia (FIM) and Lembaga Zakat Selangor, with the aim of empowering young Malaysians through culinary education and career opportunities.

The 2025 scholarship recipients will commence their training in early September 2025 at FIM, where they will undergo intensive culinary lessons guided by seasoned chefs. Upon completion, the students will embark on a three-month job placement at two leading restaurants Chakz and Pac and Cap, equipping them with practical skills and real-world industry experience.

Mohd Jazri Ikmal Hijaz, Associate Director, External Affairs of Mahsuri Dagang Sdn Bhd, said, “At Mahsuri, we believe in creating opportunities that can truly transform lives. Through the Chef Muda Mahsuri Programme, we are not only providing scholarships, but also nurturing a new generation of culinary talent who will one day contribute to Malaysia’s vibrant food industry. This initiative reflects our long-term commitment to empowering communities and supporting underprivileged youths to achieve their full potential.

Chef Muda Programme

Master Chef Moh Johari Edrus, Honorary Advisor of FIM, added, “The Chef Muda Mahsuri Programme has become a meaningful platform for young Malaysians who dream of a career in the kitchen. The F&B industry is dynamic and continues to provide significant opportunities, and through this initiative, we are able to develop graduates who are confident, job-ready professionals. By bridging education with employment, we are collectively building a stronger pipeline of skilled talent for Malaysia’s culinary sector.”

Since its launch in July 2023, the Chef Muda Mahsuri Programme has supported aspiring chefs through a combination of practical training, mentorship, and industry placement. The first round in 2023 saw five graduates successfully complete the programme, followed by 10 participants in 2024. With the launch of the third round, Mahsuri and FIM remain dedicated to nurturing culinary talent and strengthening Malaysia’s culinary identity.
