Malaysian Bar Urges PM to Address Judicial Vacancies and Safeguard Court Independence
The Malaysian Bar submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office calling for urgent action to safeguard judicial independence. President Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab said the memorandum, received by Legal Affairs Division director-general Datuk Zamri Misman, highlights concerns over judicial vacancies, institutional continuity, and the need for a transparent appointment process. Lawyers and public supporters marched from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister’s Office in the “Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence”. Ezri stressed that some court cases are now scheduled as far as 2030, potentially disrupting justice delivery, and urged the government to resolve these issues swiftly.
