Mastercard Completes First AI-Driven Agentic Payment Pilot in Malaysia with CIMB and RHB

Mastercard has completed its first live authenticated agentic transaction in Malaysia through a pilot conducted with CIMB Group Holdings Berhad and RHB Banking Group, marking a step forward in AI-powered commerce.

The pilot used Mastercard Agent Pay, enabling an artificial intelligence agent to complete a real transaction in a controlled environment. In the demonstration, the AI agent booked a ride from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to KL Sentral via mobility provider hoppa.

The transaction was facilitated by an AI agent from CardInfoLink and secured using tokenized credentials and Mastercard Payment Passkeys for strong authentication and data protection.

AI Agentic Payment

According to Mastercard, the pilot confirmed the technical and operational feasibility of AI-initiated payments in Malaysia. Commercial deployment will be introduced gradually while banks and partners educate consumers on using agentic commerce safely.

Mastercard said it will expand the technology into sectors such as travel, entertainment and retail as adoption of secure AI-driven transactions grows across Asia Pacific.
