MCIS Life Insurance Berhad (MCIS Life) has announced its commitment to combat global warming by contributing RM1 million towards planting 5,000 endemic rainforest trees in the MCIS Life Legacy Forest located in Sireh Park, Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
This initiative is an expansion of their pilot project launched in 2019, which saw the planting of 1,280 saplings between 2020 and 2022. With this new addition, the total number of endemic rainforest species on site will exceed 45 types.
En. Mohammad Nizar Idris, Chairman of MCIS Life, expressed that this proactive contribution aims to conserve and protect the environment while mitigating the effects of climate change. The company has closely monitored the impact of their pilot project over the past three years. They believe that planting carefully selected endemic rainforest trees will contribute significantly to carbon offset and help combat global warming.
MCIS Life’s tree planting initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13, which focuses on Climate Action. The company actively engages employees, distribution partners, customers, and the local community, including school children, to raise awareness about the threat of rising temperatures and climate change.
The new 5,000 saplings, planted in stages and scheduled for completion by August 2023, combined with the existing 1,280 trees on site, are expected to collectively offset approximately 567 tons of carbon by 2029. MCIS Life has partnered with The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust (TNNHT), a non-profit organization that owns and operates Sireh Park, to support this tree planting initiative.
MCIS Life’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond this project, as they focus on various aspects such as Good Health and Wellbeing, Clean Energy, and Life on Land. The company recognizes sustainability as an integral part of its success and growth plans, aiming to build a better future and contribute to a healthier population.
