Study Confirms Paracetamol Safe for Use During Pregnancy Despite Trump
European researchers have reaffirmed that paracetamol, also known as Tylenol, is safe to use during pregnancy, countering claims linking it to autism. In a review published in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Women’s Health, the team analysed 43 studies using high-quality evidence. Lead author Professor Asma Khalil said no causal link was found between paracetamol use and autism, ADHD or intellectual disability when taken as recommended.
The review included large sibling-comparison studies involving over 260,000 children. Researchers stressed that untreated pain and fever during pregnancy can pose risks to both mothers and babies, reinforcing medical guidance on cautious use. US President Donald Trump’s claims of a link to autism, which he made last year, is now proven wrong.
