U Mobile Sdn Bhd, chosen to implement Malaysia’s second 5G network, will reduce its foreign majority shareholding to 20% to enhance local control and attract Malaysian investors. In a statement, the company emphasized that this decision aligns with its commitment to the national.
“With a proven track record spanning more than 17 years, U Mobile is well-positioned for the second 5G network rollout. Our dedication to accessible and innovative services has earned us numerous accolades, including being named ‘Malaysia Mobile Services Company of the Year’ by Frost & Sullivan six times. U Mobile has also been recognised for offering the fastest overall internet speeds in Malaysia,” it said.
U Mobile currently leads in 5G capacity consumption among service providers in the country. Following a thorough technical and commercial evaluation, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced U Mobile’s selection.
The company looks forward to collaborating with stakeholders, including MCMC and telecommunications firms like CelcomDigi and Telekom Malaysia, to deliver superior 5G services. It is also engaging with global technology partners such as Huawei and will work with Digital Nasional Bhd to ensure optimal 5G experiences for consumers.
