Wall Street Rebounds as US Treasury Buys Bonds

US Treasury bond purchases ease yields; Wall Street rebounds, oil stays high, FBMKLCI seen consolidating within 1,725–1,735 range.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Wall Street rebounded overnight after the US Treasury intervened by purchasing bonds to ease escalating yields, which have rattled global financial markets. The move helped the US 10-year yield retreat to 4.65%, providing temporary relief.

Wall Street Rebounds

Meanwhile, crude oil prices remained elevated at nearly USD92 per barrel amid ongoing Middle East tensions. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index staged a late recovery, supported by defensive stocks, though tech counters weighed on sentiment. Locally, the FBMKLCI closed slightly lower, with Rakuten Trade expecting the index to consolidate within the 1,725–1,735 range today.
