Active BNPL account holders rose to eight million 1Q26
KUALA LUMPUR, 16 July, 2026: The number of active Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) account holders rose to eight million in the first quarter of this year the Ministry of Finance said today.
The total outstanding BNPL balance reached RM5.3 billion during the same period, while the total overdue amount stood at RM181.0 million, or 3.4 per cent of the total outstanding balance.
“Overall, BNPL debt remains low, accounting for around 0.3 per cent of total household debt in the country as of end-2025,” the ministry said in a written reply published on the Parliament website.
The ministry also noted that the Consumer Credit Commission (SKP) has issued authorisation and conduct standards setting the minimum requirements for all BNPL providers.
