Airbus Defence and Space successfully completed tests of its A400M firefighting kit in Nîmes-Garons, France, in April 2025, as announced on June 26, 2025. Conducted by CEREN, the tests assessed the kit’s effectiveness through multiple drops at low altitudes (under 30 meters) and speeds of 230 km/h. The roll-on/roll-off kit, requiring no permanent aircraft modifications, can discharge 20,000 liters of water or retardant via the rear ramp, with tanks refillable in under 10 minutes. Its design enables rapid conversion of any A400M for firefighting, with capabilities for short, unpaved runway operations and high maneuverability. This kit enhances Airbus’s ecosystem of aerial firefighting solutions, supporting day and night missions to combat escalating global wildfires.
