Indonesia Receives First Airbus A400M to Boost Airlift and Disaster Response Capabilities
JAKARTA – Airbus Defence and Space has delivered Indonesia’s first A400M military transport aircraft, strengthening the nation’s airlift, humanitarian, and disaster response capabilities. The aircraft, the first of two ordered in 2021, was officially handed over to the Ministry of Defence and will be operated by the Indonesian Air Force. A delivery ceremony was held at Halim Air Force Base following the aircraft’s transfer from Airbus’ facility in Seville, Spain.
The A400M can carry up to 37 tonnes of cargo, including vehicles and helicopters, and operate on short, unpaved runways across Indonesia’s vast archipelago. Airbus will also provide training and support to ensure smooth integration into service. Indonesia is studying the integration of Airbus’ modular firefighting kit, which enables the aircraft to drop 20,000 litres of water, enhancing national firefighting efforts. A second A400M is expected to be delivered in 2026.
