Anwar on the role of GLICs in Malaysia’s national development

In a speech this morning, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the role of GLIC’s, which collectively manages almost RM2 trillion worth of assets, should be optimized to support Malaysia’s economic growth and domestic direct investment (DDI).

“GLIC and GLC can no longer focus solely on profit without playing a role and taking greater corporate responsibility in nation building,he says.

Moving forward, the Ministry of Finance and MADANI Monitor will see and coordinate efforts so that GLICs and GLCs:

implement strategic investments that are in line with NIMP and NETR and support the transformation of the Malaysian economy;

-increase the level of employee welfare and support the development of human capital including the implementation of graduate marketability programs; and

-taking corporate responsibility in improving the socioeconomics of the people through the provision of educational scholarships, supporting local PMKS and mobilizing programs to eradicate poverty.
