PETALING JAYA – Malaysia will host the inaugural ASEAN Hokkien Convention on August 28, coinciding with its ASEAN 2025 chairmanship. Tan Sri Ir Lim Hock San, President of the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia, said the event will unite Hokkien leaders and entrepreneurs from across the region to foster unity, strengthen economic networks, and promote Hokkien entrepreneurial potential globally. Last year’s 11th World Fujian Convention in Kuala Lumpur attracted over 3,300 delegates from 108 associations in 20 countries, resulting in the formal establishment of the ASEAN Fujian Federation. This year’s convention, at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, will feature the ASEAN Potential Development Forum, officiated by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and closed by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim. It will also include the opening of the Hokkien Federation Museum and the Hokkien Entrepreneurship Awards Gala Dinner. Lim said the convention aims to boost investment, local products, tourism, and regional economic cooperation.
