Azizan Abdul Aziz named Bursa’s Islamic capital market director
KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed Azizan Abdul Aziz as director of its Islamic capital market (ICM), effective Friday. Azizan will assume the new role alongside his current position as Bursa’s chief financial officer. Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Fad’l Mohamed said the appointment reflects the exchange’s commitment to strengthening its ICM proposition as part of broader strategic priorities.
Malaysia’s Islamic capital market has expanded from RM2.2 trillion in 2020 to RM2.7 trillion by end‑2025, with shariah‑compliant equities and sukuk contributing RM1.3 trillion and RM1.4 trillion respectively. More than 80% of public‑listed companies on Bursa are shariah‑compliant, underscoring the depth of Islamic investing locally. Azizan, with over 20 years of experience in finance, accounting, corporate finance and advisory, will provide strategic oversight and direction for ICM priorities, working closely with stakeholders to support ecosystem development and long‑term growth.
