PADIBERAS Nasional Bhd (Bernas) has expanded its Large-Scale Smart Paddy Field (Smart SBB) Ala Sekinchan programme to Kg Kesapang Tengah, Kota Belud, covering 175 hectares.
This initiative aims to enhance Malaysia’s food security by optimizing land use and adopting best agricultural practices. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted the program’s success in increasing paddy yields and boosting local rice production.
Bernas has provided farmers with nine state-of-the-art machines and advanced agricultural equipment worth RM1 million. The program, benefiting 81 farmers in Kota Belud and over 735 farmers nationwide, has significantly increased crop yields and farmers’ incomes.
“The remarkable success of the Smart SBB Ala Sekinchan Bernas programme is pivotal in achieving Sabah’s local rice production goals, signifying the commitment of the Ministry.
“It ensures the safety and security of the country’s food supply, especially in the rice sub-sector, to always be sufficient and sustainable,” Mohamad Sabu said in a statement.
