Bernas launches innovative Smart SBB in Langkawi
Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) is set to revolutionize glutinous rice cultivation and agrotourism growth with the launch of its innovative Smart SBB (Large-Scale Smart Padi Field) project in Langkawi, Kedah.
The initiative, officially inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Sabu, aims to uplift the socio-economic status of farmers by promoting best practices in glutinous rice production.
Covering 540 hectares of paddy fields, the project will empower 326 paddy farmers and be developed in phases over five years, starting from May 2024. Utilizing integrated farm management systems, mechanization, and IoT integration, the Smart SBB initiative seeks to optimize both the quality and quantity of yield, leading to higher returns for local farmers.
