The Summit is a practical platform for exploring the rich cultural heritage of diverse nations, showcasing modest fashion, fostering business partnerships, and showcasing traditional craft techniques from across the world. Within the BRICS economies, the fashion industry is experiencing a surge in importance, with robust ecosystems emerging to support everything from supply chain management to production and marketing.

From Kuala Lumpur to Mexico: Global Fashion Takes Center Stage at BRICS+ Fashion Summit

Malaysia, having submitted its application to join BRICS this year, is poised for growth. With a fashion market worth $3 billion, projected to grow by 10% by 2029, Malaysia is looking to expand its presence on the global stage. Leading the Malaysian delegation at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit is Jay Ishak, President of the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association, who is attending the Summit for the second time. “The thoughtful discussions and collaborative spirit fostered a strong sense of community among the BRICS nations, highlighting how fashion can be a bridge for cultural exchange and economic development. This summit is a catalyst for growth, particularly for small and mid-sized fashion brands seeking to enter international markets. It fosters sustainable practices, enhances global competitiveness, and creates a platform for sharing innovative solutions,” shares Jay Ishak.

The Summit’s Business program is set to be extremely informative and engaging, with over 40 sessions featuring leaders in the fashion industry from across the globe, including heads of fashion associations and talented designers. At the heart of the summit there will be the remarkable exhibition ‘Heritage’, showcasing artisanal crafts from over 40 countries. Malaysian brand Yani Bakhtiar, alongside designers from Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines, and other nations, will showcase their cultural identity through a modern lens. “The exhibition at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit provides a prime opportunity to highlight the uniqueness and beauty of our hand-drawn batik and share the values and stories behind our designs. Ultimately, it will help us expand our network and reach a broader audience in the global market,” shares the designer Yani Bakhtiar.

The BRICS+ Fashion Summit stands as a testament to the power of fashion to unite diverse cultures and shape the industry’s future, driving economic growth and sustainability. Building on the success of last year’s event, which facilitated international designer exchanges between fashion associations from China, India, Russia, and beyond, this year’s Summit promises even greater collaboration. Moscow Fashion Week (October 4-9), running in parallel with the Summit, will showcase designers from BRICS nations and beyond, continuing the momentum of global fashion dialogue.
