Businessman Accuses PM’s Aide of Receiving RM629,000 in Goods and Renovations
Businessman Albert Tei has levelled new claims in the ongoing Sabah mining controversy, alleging he spent RM629,000 on items and renovations for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s senior political secretary, Shamsul Iskandar Akin. Tei, whose mineral exploration licences were cancelled by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government, said he compiled a dossier exceeding 300 pages containing WhatsApp screenshots, receipts and photographs to support his allegations.
He claimed to have funded furnishings and appliances for properties in Bangsar and Putrajaya, including leather furniture, home theatre systems and a massage chair. Tei also alleged he purchased premium cigars and tailored suits for Shamsul, providing receipts and measurements. WhatsApp messages from December 2023 were supplied to Malaysiakini to show purported requests for money. Malaysiakini has contacted Shamsul for comment. The accusations land days before the state election, adding further pressure to an already contentious political environment.
Tei said he paid for extensive upgrades to Shamsul’s properties, including furniture, appliances and a massage chair. He shared before-and-after photos of refurbished rooms in Putrajaya and claimed additional spending on premium cigars and tailored suits, supported by receipts and measurements.
Shamsul has since resigned as PM’s political secretary, saying he will defend himself.
