Cabinet Declassifies Tabung Haji RCI Report, Orders Immediate Investigation

PUTRAJAYA, July 29 – The Malaysian Cabinet has agreed to declassify and publicly release the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji, while directing enforcement agencies to resume investigations immediately. Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said ministers were briefed on the report by Tabung Haji’s top management before making the decision.

“The Cabinet agreed this report will be declassified and disclosed today. It will also be tabled and debated in a special Dewan Rakyat session soon,” Fahmi said. The RCI outlined 25 recommendations, of which 75% have already been implemented by Tabung Haji’s current management.

The Cabinet also noted Tabung Haji’s announcement of a 3.5% profit distribution for the 2025 financial year, reflecting improved governance. Fahmi stressed that enforcement bodies will pursue full investigations, with offenders brought to justice if laws were breached.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim earlier expressed confidence the Cabinet would support disclosure, while Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised that “no one is above the law.” PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man welcomed transparency but questioned the timing, as the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign is ongoing.

The government has yet to confirm when and where the RCI report will be released.
