Cisco Unveils 51.2T 8223 Router and P200 Chip to Power Next-Gen AI Data Centers
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Cisco has launched the 8223 routing system powered by its new Silicon One P200 chip, setting a new benchmark in AI networking. The 51.2-terabit fixed Ethernet router delivers unprecedented scalability, power efficiency, and security for connecting data centers handling distributed AI workloads. Cisco said the 8223 supports “scale-across” architectures to overcome power and space constraints while maintaining performance. With deep-buffer routing, it handles massive traffic surges, offering 64 ports of 800G and over 20 billion packets per second.
The P200 chip enables programmability, advanced encryption, and over 3 exabits per second of interconnect bandwidth. Initial units are shipping to hyperscalers. Cisco executives said the launch addresses AI’s growing infrastructure demands and future-proofs global networks for secure, efficient scaling.
