Dell PowerMax Enhancements Boost Energy Efficiency and Cybersecurity

Dell Technologies has updated its PowerMax storage system, enhancing energy efficiency, cybersecurity, and operational automation, thus contributing to eco-friendly and secure enterprise storage.

Dell Technologies has unveiled enhancements to its PowerMax storage system, which focuses on energy efficiency and cybersecurity. The PowerMaxOS 10.1 software update offers improved power consumption monitoring and environmental alerting.

It introduces dynamic data mobility, enhances data deduplication and compression, and significantly improves performance per watt, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and electricity costs. The update also advances cybersecurity with federal certification, improved encryption, intrusion detection, and ransomware monitoring.

Automation features, including AI-driven health checks and REST APIs, streamline operations. These enhancements make PowerMax a more energy-efficient and cyber-resilient solution for enterprise storage.

The latest version of Dell PowerMax takes cyber resiliency to the next level, reducing organisations attack surfaces, detecting potential intrusions, and expediting the ability to recover from an attack. This release adds:

  • Federal Approved Products List certified/STIG-hardening that meets stringent U.S. Department of Defense guidelines to reduce the attack surface.
    • Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.3, the latest and most secure version, offers stronger encryption algorithms to reduce the risk of eavesdropping and data breaches.
  • Cyber Intrusion Detection for z Systems (zCID)the industry’s first mainframe storage-based intrusion detection. It monitors z/OS workloads to identify normal variations and build user-customisable rules that issue alerts if an intrusion is detected.
  • Advanced anomaly detection of I/O patterns for improved ransomware and malware monitoring, detection, and alerting to identify possible cyberattacks. 
  • Ignition Key Support, a new data-at-rest capability leveraging external key managers to protect against physical theft of the array.
  • Data Sanitizer, which uses a NIST-compliant process that erases all data prior to decommissioning an array.
