Deputy PM Meets Gig Platforms to Shape Worker Policies

BANGI – Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi met Grab, foodpanda, ShopeeFood, and others to discuss policies safeguarding gig workers while preserving sector flexibility. Platforms welcomed continued engagement, calling it key to shaping practical laws for Malaysia’s evolving digital economy.

In a joint statement, the companies said they welcomed the government’s openness to industry perspectives, adding that continued engagement would be key to crafting practical policies benefiting workers, platforms, and the wider digital economy.

They also noted the Deputy Prime Minister’s plan for a follow-up townhall, describing it as crucial to ensure policies reflect the real needs and aspirations of all parties as Malaysia navigates the evolving nature of work.
