Eurozone Retail Growth Slows as Consumers Stay Cautious — MBSB Research
MBSB Research reported that Eurozone retail sales grew modestly by +1.0% year-on-year in August 2025, down from +2.1% in July, marking the slowest pace since mid-2024. Month-on-month, sales edged up +0.1%, signalling only a mild recovery after July’s drop. Gains were mainly supported by food, drinks, and fuel sales, offsetting weaker non-food spending.
France and Spain recorded rebounds, while Germany and Italy saw further declines, highlighting uneven momentum across the bloc. MBSB Research noted that while essential goods spending suggests resilience, overall consumption remains subdued amid uncertainty over growth and jobs. The firm expects only a modest pickup in coming months, as households remain cautious despite improving consumer sentiment.
