Wall Street surges on talks of war ending
BERLIN, Sept 22 — Germany scrambled two Eurofighter jets alongside two Swedish Gripens to intercept a Russian IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft flying unidentified over the Baltic Sea. Officials confirmed the plane failed to provide a flight path or radio contact, prompting NATO to track and photograph the aircraft before escorting it out without incident. The operation comes amid heightened NATO and EU vigilance following repeated Russian drone and fighter incursions into Poland, Romania, and Estonia.
Meanwhile, the UK reinforced its role in NATO’s Eastern Sentry mission, launching RAF Typhoons and a Voyager tanker from Coningsby to patrol eastern Poland after Russian MiG-31 jets breached Estonian airspace. Poland has since invoked Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, underscoring regional concern.
US President Donald Trump also pledged that Washington would defend Poland and the Baltic states if Russia escalates further, as the UN Security Council prepared to convene on the issue.
