Heriot-Watt is the winner of the Employer of Choice Award

PUTRAJAYA, 7 September 2022 Heriot-Watt University Malaysia has been recognised as one of Talentbank’s Employers’ Preferred Universities in the recent National Graduate Employability Index.

The GE Index which measures the employability rate of graduates from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia, is based on surveys conducted with the nation’s top employers, including Top Glove Corporation Bhd, Microsoft, IBM, Motorola, PETRONAS, Shell Malaysia, Shopee Malaysia, and others.

The latest GE Index awarded HWUM several 5-Star and 6-Star Employability Ratings as below:

  1. 6-Star Employability Rating: Mathematics and Statistics, and Quantity Survey.
  2. 5-Star Employability Rating: Accounting, Actuarial Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing.

The GE Index survey included questions on employers’ most preferred HEIs, the number of graduates they employ, and if they would continue to hire graduates from the same institutions.

HWUM Provost and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, says “We’re proud to be recognised by Talentbank and the nation’s top graduate employers’ as a preferred University for future-ready graduates. Not only does it reaffirm our decade of impact in Malaysia, but it also reaffirms our commitment to continue delivering world-class programmes with a global outlook to prepare today’s youth with skills needed by the world’s economic drivers.”

Around 95% of the University’s graduates find employment or continue their education within six months of graduation.

“We have had a few graduates in the Global Maybank Apprentice Programme among the hundreds of HWUM alumni in the Bank, and they have proven themselves repeatedly by how they’ve stood out and continue to rise above, among the many projects that we have challenged them with. We are also looking forward to welcoming more HWUM graduates who have recently secured their offers to join us in a couple of weeks.”
