Camaroe, Sustainno and Huawei Malaysia Join Forces on Sustainable Prawn Farming

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Camaroe Berhad, Sustainno Sdn Bhd and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of understanding to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and smart energy management technologies in prawn aquaculture.

The collaboration forms part of Camaroe’s Sustainable Aquaculture Green Transformation Roadmap and will see Huawei’s Commercial and Industrial Smart Photovoltaic and Energy Storage System technologies integrated into Camaroe’s aquaculture facilities.

The initiative aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce dependence on non-renewable energy, minimise energy wastage and optimise operating costs in an energy-intensive industry.

Sustainno, as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning partner, will oversee site assessments, feasibility studies, system design, equipment procurement, deployment, performance validation, training and post-installation support.

Camaros and Huawei

Huawei Malaysia will provide the digital power technologies and technical expertise underpinning the initiative, including its Next Gen-Microgrid solution.

Camaroe Managing Director Teoh Han Boon said the collaboration would help make aquaculture more productive, energy-efficient and resilient while supporting the company’s transformation into a technology-driven and globally competitive business.

Sustainno Founder and Technical Director Lau Tzeh Wei said declining solar and battery costs had made off-grid systems increasingly viable, with the company focusing on reducing the lifetime cost of energy rather than equipment prices.

Huawei Malaysia Executive Vice President of Digital Power Chong Chern Peng said energy was one of the key operating costs that aquaculture businesses could actively optimise.

The MoU was signed at Huawei Malaysia’s AI Lab and Innovation Centre at The Exchange 106 in TRX.

Huawei said the collaboration marks its first foray into Malaysia’s agriculture sector and supports the country’s broader carbon neutrality ambitions.
