Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS in January 2025 led to its expected entry into the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), confirmed by President Prabowo Subianto on March 25, 2025, during NDB President Dilma Rousseff’s visit.
As the largest ASEAN economy and first G20 member to join, Indonesia boosts NDB’s global standing. Promising sectors for cooperation include renewable energy and technology, with NDB filling a financing gap in ASEAN.
This move may inspire other ASEAN nations like Malaysia and Thailand to join, potentially leading to a regional NDB center. Indonesia’s entry enhances South-South trade, G20 engagement, and NDB’s expansion, fostering broader Global South financial networks.
