Johor CIQ Officer Arrested for “Flying Passport” Smuggling – 8 Foreign Passports Seized

MCBA officer caught with 8 hidden foreign passports at BSI CIQ; arrested for illegal possession and breaching phone ban.

JOHOR BARU: An Immigration officer attached to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) was arrested yesterday for allegedly running a “flying passport” syndicate at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) CIQ complex.

During a routine integrity check at 11.30am, the officer was found violating the mandatory phone-surrender rule. Subsequent searches uncovered eight foreign passports – six Chinese, one Indonesian, one Vietnamese – concealed in a black bag on his Honda Vario parked inside the secure compound.

The officer has been detained under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966. His motorcycle and two undeclared phones were seized. MCBA warned that zero tolerance will be shown toward personnel compromising border security, as the incident risks undermining investor and tourist confidence in Malaysia’s immigration integrity.
