PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is seeking over RM1 billion in additional funding to strengthen public cleaning services nationwide.
Minister Nga Kor Ming said the funds will support reforms including converting 20% of cleaning vehicles to electric models by 2027, in line with Malaysia’s decarbonisation goals. New initiatives such as night-time cleaning and deep-cleaning at tourist hotspots are also planned.
The proposal follows Selangor and Penang’s adoption of Act 672 to harmonise waste management policies.
Nga said more than 300 stakeholders submitted 55 proposals, which will be refined before submission to the Finance Ministry by Sept 4.
He added Budget 2026 will also prioritise public infrastructure, property sector revival, and the MADANI Home Ownership Programme.
