Malaysia hosted its first Hong Kong Disneyland Live Open Call Auditions, attracting over 200 performers from nine countries while strengthening its reputation as a regional performing arts destination.
Malaysia has reached a new milestone in the performing arts industry after hosting its first-ever Hong Kong Disneyland® Live Open Call Auditions, drawing more than 200 aspiring performers from nine countries to Kuala Lumpur.
Held on June 20 and 21 at Asia Ballet Academy, Menara KLGCC, the two-day event was presented by Hong Kong Disneyland® and Disney Auditions, with local production managed by Just Being Experiences (JBX). Participants attended an exclusive audition workshop led by Hong Kong Disneyland casting directors before taking part in live auditions for Dancer and Character Performer roles.
Around 90 percent of participants were Malaysians, including many from Sabah and Sarawak, while performers also travelled from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Iran. The turnout highlighted Malaysia’s growing reputation as a regional hub for international entertainment opportunities and creative talent.
Candidates were assessed on technical skills, versatility, stage presence and overall performance quality, with selected performers progressing to callback auditions as part of Disney’s international casting process.
Following the successful event, Disney Auditions expressed appreciation for the quality and diversity of performers and indicated plans to return to Malaysia in 2027, signalling continued collaboration with the country’s expanding performing arts community and creating more international career opportunities ahead.
