Malaysia secured RM7 million in strategic bioeconomy collaborations with Taiwanese partners, strengthening biotechnology commercialisation, sustainable innovation, regional supply chains and international market expansion through BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026.
Malaysia has strengthened its regional bioeconomy presence by formalising three strategic collaborations worth about RM7 million with Taiwanese partners during the Malaysia Regional Collaboration Forum held alongside BIO Asia–Taiwan 2026.
Led by the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the partnerships focus on sustainable agriculture, advanced bio-based materials and biotechnology commercialisation.
One agreement, valued at approximately RM1 million, brings together Sarawak-based Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) company Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Taiwan’s Monster Biotech Co., Ltd.
The collaboration covers the long-term purchase and supply of Black Soldier Fly-based animal feed ingredients and biofertiliser, supporting Malaysia’s ambitions to expand exports while strengthening its position in sustainable biotechnology and insect protein production.
Another RM1 million agreement was signed between MCHAR Sdn Bhd and Taiwan’s TCHAR Co., Ltd. for the initial purchase of 20 tonnes of biochar.
The collaboration also includes plans to establish a Malaysian manufacturing facility producing black pigment and advanced biochar-based materials. Operations are expected to begin in 2027, with projected revenue of about RM20 million during the 2027–2028 financial year.
BioNexus Status company Glyken Bio Products Sdn Bhd also exchanged a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Bansho Co., Ltd., the international arm of Japan’s Lien Group.
The RM5 million collaboration over five years aims to expand the commercialisation of Glyken’s proprietary bird’s nest-based biotechnology products in Taiwan and other regional markets.
Bioeconomy Corporation chief executive officer Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak said the collaborations would strengthen regional supply chain resilience, accelerate commercialisation and deepen ASEAN-East Asia partnerships.
The forum also featured Malaysian biotechnology companies showcasing innovations in oncology diagnostics, healthcare solutions and sustainable bio-based products, while Pharmaniaga Berhad and Duopharma Biotech Berhad participated in business matching sessions to explore further international collaboration opportunities.
