Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Defence Cooperation on January 2, 2026, during Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin’s working visit to Abu Dhabi.
The agreement, signed with UAE Minister of State for Defence Affairs Mohamed Bin Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, aims to expand bilateral ties beyond traditional military aspects. It focuses on joint defence research, product development, capability building, military training, expertise sharing, and industry partnerships.
Khaled highlighted potential collaboration with UAE’s EDGE Group, leveraging Malaysia’s semiconductor and aerospace strengths. He proposed training Royal Malaysian Navy officers on UAE’s Gowind-class ships to prepare for Malaysia’s Littoral Combat Ships.
Both nations committed to enhancing interoperability and mutual benefits, contributing to regional and global peace. Khaled also visited the Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, praising efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and protect Malaysian citizens. (148 words)
