Malaysian Man Fatally Shot in Thai Border Town: Security Tightened
TUMPAT, Nov 2 — Malaysian authorities have ramped up border defenses following the fatal shooting of a Pasir Mas resident in Sungai Golok, Narathiwat, Thailand, last night. The victim, who had lived in the border town’s Bereng area, was killed in a house attack witnessed by his wife, who identified one shooter as a close relative.
General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade acting commander ACP Ijid Landu Binju emphasized ongoing vigilance, stating, “We remain constantly alert, not just reacting to incidents.”
He ordered intensified patrols, roadblocks, and inspections at the Pengkalan Kubor Tactical Company Headquarters to ensure robust control.
Sources revealed the prime suspect, holding dual Thai-Malaysian IDs and with a history of drug offenses, may have been injured in the gunfire exchange. Thai police are probing motives, including possible debts. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed the death and awaits Thai updates, urging cross-border cooperation to prevent escalation. The incident underscores persistent challenges in the volatile region.
