Three men detained in illegal million-dollar iron ore mining, Pahang

On April 30, authorities detained three men—two Bangladeshi nationals and one local—during an operation named ‘Op Bersepadu Khazanah’ at an illegal iron ore mining site in Sungai Ganoh, Bukit Ibam forest reserve, near Muadzam Shah, Rompin. The General Operations Force (GOF) Tenggara Brigade, with the Pahang Enforcement Unit (UPNP), seized mining equipment worth RM1.25 million, including an excavator. The suspects, who lacked a mining license and, in the case of the foreigners, valid work permits, were handed over to the Rompin police. They are being investigated under the Pahang Mineral Enactment 2001 for illegal mining, with the Bangladeshis also probed for immigration violations. The GOF plans to intensify efforts to combat illegal mining.
