Malaysia’s economy is expected to deliver another quarter of healthy growth after Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan indicated that the country’s second quarter economic performance would come in at a favourable level.

While he declined to provide further details before the official release, his comments reinforced expectations that Malaysia’s economic momentum remained intact during the April to June period.

Bank Negara Malaysia is scheduled to announce the official second quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data on August 14, which will provide a clearer assessment of the country’s overall economic performance.

Earlier, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released its advance estimate showing that Malaysia’s economy expanded by 5.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, improving from 5.4% growth in the first quarter.

The stronger performance reflects continued resilience in domestic economic activity despite external uncertainties affecting global trade and financial markets.

According to DOSM, nearly all major economic sectors contributed positively to growth, with the exception of agriculture, which remained under pressure and recorded a contraction. Strong domestic demand continued to underpin economic expansion, while investment activity and exports also provided meaningful support.

The first quarter’s growth had already exceeded the advance estimate of 5.3%, highlighting stronger-than-expected economic conditions.Investors will closely monitor the official GDP release next week for further details on sectoral performance and growth drivers.
