MALAYSIA, 8 SEPTEMBER 2026 – Mastercard has announced the appointment of Beena Pothen as Division President, West Southeast Asia, leading Mastercard’s business across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and Myanmar.
Her appointment comes with the introduction of a new two-division leadership structure within Southeast Asia to strengthen customer focus across markets with diverse economic profiles and digital maturity.
Previously Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Beena has a strong track record of growing customer relationships, expanding connected ecosystems and collaborating with governments, financial institutions and industry stakeholders to advance digital transformation across the region.
“Across Asia Pacific, AI-enabled commerce, digital wallets, tokenization and new payment experiences are reshaping commerce in real time,” said Richard Wormald, President, Asia Pacific, Mastercard.
“The region is home to some of the world’s most advanced digital economies, alongside some of its fastest-growing, making it one of the world’s most important proving grounds for the future of commerce.
That creates enormous opportunity, but it also demands leadership that can think ahead, move decisively and help customers realize the full potential of these changes,” said Beena.
Beena’s appointment is part of a series of recent senior leadership appointments across Asia Pacific that
further strengthen Mastercard’s ability to support customers navigate a rapidly evolving payments
landscape while capturing new growth opportunities.
